There are different organisations involved in managing complaints about health practitioners or students. We want to help you identify the right organisation for you, so your concern can be addressed as quickly as possible.

The Health Professional Councils Authority (HPCA) is the right place to make a complaint if you are concerned about a health practitioner in NSW behaving in a way that could pose a risk to you, other patients or members of the public. You can also make a complaint directly with the relevant health professional council.

The councils work with the Health Care Complaints Commission (HCCC) and make a joint decision about which agency is best suited to managing your complaint depending on the issues that have been identified. The HCCC and the council have different legal powers. The relevant council will tell you who is managing your complaint after it has been jointly assessed.
